The 2021 Festival in Dortmund will have a whole new look. Whereas previous Festivals featured one programme in Dortmund and another in Cologne, there will be only one programme for both cities starting this year. We are also expanding the Festival; in addition to the four new sections we are presenting two new awards in Dortmund. The festival will present the most recent film productions and award emerging filmmakers in the cinemas of Dortmund.

The queer programme desired! – film lust & queer and the innovative documentary and experimental films of the Panorama line-up now move over to the Dortmund festival.  The brand-new sections Spot on, NRW! and IWFF Revisited will presented for the first time. With the new awards for young film-making talent – the ECFA award for the best film for children and young adults and Shoot, which honours the best work of female artists from the Academy of Media Arts Cologne – we are championing the next generation of film-makers.

The special theme section, Focus, is featured once again. Next year’s actual theme is yet to be announced. One thing is sure however: the programme will treat audiences once again to a true film feast, featuring treasures from the archives as well as current releases.

Dortmund | Cologne International Women’s Film Festival – Germany’s largest forum for women in the film industry – is a renowned international and prestigious film programme that presents outstanding films by women spanning all genres and styles. The Festival, already now past its 30th year, has played an active role in ensuring that films by women directors are seen, appreciated and celebrated.

Over six days, the Festival presents around 100 films directed by women from Germany and abroad. The films and accompanying events appeal to audiences across all genders and also introduce children and young people to challenging and entertaining films made by women directors.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Festival!
