Yesterday the official opening ceremony of the 36th Dortmund|Cologne International Women's Film Festival took place in the sold out CineStar in Dortmund. Official representatives of the NRW government and of the city of Dortmund attended the opening like many filmmakers and other people interested in the festival did. Following the welcoming speeches the animation THE MAN WOMAN CASE by Anais Cauras opened the festival officially. The director discussed her film which tells the tragic story of the first documented transgender-case in history with Maxa Zoller after the screening.

The festival programme starts today. The Focus IMAGE TRAPS presents THE WATERMELON WOMAN by Cheryl Dunye, Caroline Berlers DYKES, CAMERA, ACTION! (in which you may see the recently deceased Barbara Hammer on screen) and A Family Submerged by María Alché. With WAJIB by Annemarie Jacir the International Feature Film Competition starts today.

Guest curator Noor Afshan Mirza arrived at Dortmund yesterday and will present CLAIR OBSCUR, the first film of her programme, today as well.
